Morale Checks when there is no Hero
The player that lost the least of amount of units can pick any enemy unit within 6” of one of its Heroes for the Morale checks. What if that player no longer has any heroes?

Continuing my barrage of questions, this matter came up in a game. In the game, the attacking units successfully charged one enemy unit, and each got an extra attack die as a result of the charge. The attacking units won the combat, but the losing enemy could not retreat, and thus became desperate. In subsequent attacks required by the "desperate" rule, do the attackers retain their charge bonus?
Hi Kenntak, yes they keep the charge bonus for the entire combat phase including repeated fights from desperation

Hello again. I understand that a spearman in base contact with an ally provides the ally with a +1 attack in support. Does the spearman still provide support if it is not only in base contact with its ally, but is also in base contact with an enemy?
What happens when a spearman is attacked by itself? Does it only roll 1 die or does it get its full normal attack?
Hi Kenntak,
If the spearman is in base contact with an enemy they will be unable to support and instead have to fight directly.
If the spearman has to fight an opponent directly, they will fight with the normal number of attacks listed on their stats.

Sorry, I have another question. If you roll multiple dice to wound, and more than one of the dice exceeds the losing unit's defense, does this result in one wound for each dice that exceeds the defense, or only one wound in total?
Hi Kenntak, That's not a problem. Each successful die is an individual wound. So three successfully wounding dice would cause three damage

Question 1: Chariots can only take ranged weapons or morale equipment. What happens if the chariot is attacked in melee combat, it has no melee weapons? Does it just wait to lose a combat and hope that it can retreat 1" and get away next turn? This would not work if it is surrounded and it becomes desperate.
Question 2: If one friendly unit is in combat with 2 or more enemy units, the enemy units pool their attack dice during the combat. If the one friendly unit was able to win, and causes a wound, does the friendly unit get to choose which enemy is wounded?
Hi Kenntak, Apologies I missed these clarifications. I am adding them for PDF's and future prints of the books. Question 1 clarification will be added to the special rules page and question 2 clarification will be added to the wounding page. 1: Chariots and Elephants make standard unmodified attack rolls when fighting in melee. 2: If multiple units have been defeated and the wound could be applied to multiple units, the player controlling the defeated units chooses where to apply the wound. However if a Hero defeated multiple units in combat, the player controlling the hero can choose where it is applied.
Very sorry about that.

Under Equipment on page 20, the entry for Pikes states in part the following in discussing their ability to attack at range:
Can be used to attack passed allies although as normal, an ‘In The Way’ test must be made if the bearer is not in base contact with the ally in question.
This is unclear to me. What is a "passed" ally? In addition, I am not sure how the "In The Way" test would work in this situation.
Hi Kenntak, This is saying, if you have 3 ranks of pikemen in base contact with each other for example, if a warrior in rank 2 thrusts their pike, they can perform the loose action without any risk of hitting the warrior in rank 1 so can thrust through them. If a warrior in rank 3 attempts to thrust their pike, they risk hitting the warrior in rank 1 as they aren't in direct base contact with them so would have to make an in the way check against the rank 1 warrior.
Apologies I think I used the wrong word there.

In Armies of the Empire's End, the example for the Late Roman warrior states that his melee and ranged weapons are discounted 1 point. However, his plumbata is listed as costing 5 points, the weapon’s normal cost—it has not been discounted one point. Is the example incorrect?
Hi, apologies for that! The example is correct, it's actually the weapon cost thats incorrect. It should be listed as 6 points not 5. I will make the amendment to future prints and PDF's today.
Thank you for bringing this to my attention!

Cavalry armed with a lance can wound instantly on a roll of a 6. Does this mean a 6 achieved by adding modifiers to the die roll to reach a 6, or does instant wounding only occur on a natural 6?

Hi, I am a new player, and am reading the full rules now. Going through the terrain rules, I see that there are no rules regarding hills or uneven terrain. I am just curious as to why there are no rules for such terrain.
Hi Kenntak, welcome to the community! Those were unfortunately casualties during playtesting. While opening the rules up to play testers it became a bone of contention with how hills and rough terrain are represented comparing different terrain types / angles of hills / marking out rough terrain effectively etc.
So I effectively decided to make all terrain rough/uneven unless on a road by giving roads that movement bonus and focusing raised terrain on cliffs as that is definitive in what it is and most wargaming hills come with cliffs built into them.
I realize I should have just made a decision on them and stuck with it, but at the time of designing I felt it might be better to allow players house rule them depending on their scenario as there were so many conflicting ideas.
I hope this answers your question.
Many Thanks
Matt
Hi Kenntak, If a player has lost all of their heroes, they are unable to force Morale Checks
